Student Legal Insights Program

Putting Your Academic Papers to Work

Terms & Conditions

Eligibility: This program is open to 2L or higher law students who have written papers that received a grade in the "A" range (A-, A, A+) during their studies and within the last two (2) years. Note that papers submitted from first-year/introductory courses will not be accepted.

The subject of the paper must be relevant to current legal topics (i.e. no historical and/or hypothetical case law analysis) and preferably align with the areas of law HCLS practices. However, papers on unique and/or significant legal topics outside HCLS’s primary practice areas may also be considered.

Submission Requirements:

  1. Blog Version: Students are required to submit a blog version of their academic paper, summarizing the key points and findings in a format suitable for general readership (typically 300-500 words).
  2. Full Version: Alongside the blog version, students must provide the full academic paper as a Word or PDF file.
  3. Proof of Grade: A document or official communication confirming the final grade of the paper must accompany the submission.
  4. Originality: Submissions must be original works of the student and not previously published on other platforms.

Rights and Compensation:

  1. Upon approval, students will be compensated for their submissions as follows: $40 for A-, $45 for A, and $50 for A+.
  2. By accepting payment for their submission, students agree to waive all rights to the paper, transferring full ownership rights to HCLS.
  3. Approved papers will be featured on the HCLS blog.

Selection Process: Submissions will be reviewed and selected based on relevance, quality, and originality.

Publication: HCLS reserves the right to edit the "Blog Version" submissions for clarity, length, and style. The student will be credited as the author of the blog, but HCLS maintains editorial control.

How to Submit: Students interested in participating should submit their papers along with the required materials to "info@hcls.law". The subject line of your email should read as follows: SLIP - [Title of your paper].

By participating in this program, students gain the opportunity to have their work recognized and read by a wider audience, including legal professionals and potential employers, while contributing to the broader legal discourse.
